Blocks That Matter (in figures)
Posted on February 23, 2012
Back in 2011, we’ve shared with you some info about how not-so-well Blocks That Matter sold on Xbox Live Indie Games.
Since then, many things happened :
– we’ve released BTM on Steam in August
– BTM won the Dream.Build.Play 2011 Challenge few weeks after
– and the game has been part of the Humble Voxatron Debut in November
In the same time, more and more people heard about it and what was a small game lost between WhateverCraft and WhateverZombie on XBLIG became a nice indie game (according to players and journalists) on PC.
But how well, exactly, did Blocks That Matter sell?
Let’s unveil the great BTM infographic!
(some data are not detailed due to contracts restrictions)
Great job dudes! I’ve loved this game since I bought it on Steam!
Thanks for these figures, always very interesting to know if a good game has met the customers.
It seems XBLIG is not a viable platform, and many developers complain about XBLA.
Personnaly I don’t use Steam (it doesn’t work on my computer, without any reason!), but in the future I hope I’ll be able to get your games, or on PC (but not by Steam), or on the XBLA.
We now want to know more about your upcoming games!
Thanks a lot for the BTM figures, I’m always glad to see developers sharing an information like that!
After I saw a news about this I thought: “Hey why don’t I play a few more levels. It’s fun and I haven’t finished it yet.”
Now I KNOW why I haven’t finished it yet! Because Level 34 (Child’s Play) is just unfair.
But thanks for sharing this information. Stuff like that is always interesting to know.
$24,000 from XBLIG (-30% MS cut) (Thank you Xbox 360 users)
$40,000 from winning DBP11- (Thank you Microsoft)
Possibly a game place on XBLA?. That’s worth $10,000 plus. (If it happens) (I maybe a 100% wrong).
I think you did pretty good on the 360. I hope you make BTM:2 on 360.
@BrunoB : Indievania is topping Desura on both number of copies sold and revenue.
A big big thanks for sharing these figures!
I must say I am quite disappointed by the XBLIG sales. Especially with the very good reviews that you received…
Can’t wait for your new game! π
Is Indievania topping Desura in terms of number of copies sold or in terms of revenue?
BTM is a really good game but the fact is puzzle game aren’t the most played kind of game.
Anyways, for a first game and if we look at the time it took to made it, it looks like a success.
I hope to see more games from you guys
Very informative! Thank you for sharing guys!
@ANty: The difference between Steam and Indievania is much bigger than it is between Indievania and Desura, of course.
@AlfredSaxon: Something like 8000+ units sold on XBLIG.
@Lion: It’s hard to compare Win, Mac and Linux outside the Humble Voxatron Debut, but without the Mac and Linux port it’s pretty sure we wouldn’t be in the bundle. Do yes, it worth it π
More comparison between Win, Mac and Linux or between the XNA and Java version would be great to tell if the port was worth it.
thank you for sharing these stats and keep on the good work!
@Alfred: they didn’t provide this info π
Bonjour!. Thank you. I cannot read it well (On my Wii no PC). How many did they sell on XBLIG world wide?.
N1, thanks for the stats, although it’s a shame that you couldn’t reveal more details π
I wouldn’t think that Indievania can be a bigger source of income than Desura, strange, any idea why?
